What is a runoff election?

Runoff elections are held when no candidate wins the required majority of votes.

During the 2022 Midterm Election, no candidate for one of the state’s US Senate seats won the required majority of votes.

Who can vote in Georgia's runoff election?

Anyone who is registered to vote in Georgia can vote in state, local, and federal runoff elections. Check your voter status here.

Runoff dates for the 2022 Midterm Election are:

November 7, 2022 — Last day to register to vote for the Georgia Runoff. No one who wasn’t on the rolls before November 8 can register to vote now.
November 28, 2022 — Last day to request an absentee ballot & in-person early voting begins for all Georgia counties.
December 2, 2022 — Last day for in-person early voting.
December 6, 2022 — Election day & absentee ballots must be received by the close of polls.

What ID does a person need to register to vote in GA?

Georgia’s voter registration form asks for your Georgia driver’s license or ID number, or the last four digits of your Social Security Number. Be sure to provide one of these numbers if you have it. Georgia’s online registration form requires either your Georgia driver’s license or ID number.


What ID does an individual need to vote in GA?

All voters in Georgia must show ID at the polls prior to voting in person early or on Election Day. Acceptable ID includes:

A Georgia driver’s license, even if expired

Any valid state or federal issued photo ID, including a free Voter ID Card issued by your county registrar’s office or by the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS)

Valid U.S. passport

Valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency, or entity of the U.S. Government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority or other state entity

Valid U.S. military photo ID

Valid tribal photo ID

Student ID cards: Georgia accepts student ID cards from certain public and technical institutions. Students at private universities must show one of the other acceptable forms of photo ID to vote. You can see if your school’s student ID is accepted here.

Advanced In Person (Early) Voting begins for the Midterm Election Runoff for Federal Offices on November 28, 2022. (O.C.G.A. § 21-2-385)
